The Arc designed by IBUKU Studio
The first building of its kind ever made, the Arc at Green School is a series of bamboo arches spanning 19 meters, interconnected by anticlastic grid shells which derive their strength from curving in two directions.
The Arc is a feat of engineering; it required months of research and development and fine tuning of tailor-made details. It was completed for the world renowned Green School in Bali, Indonesia in 2021.

This project is located in Bali, Indonesia.
Bali is a province of Indonesia and the westernmost of the Lesser Sunda Islands. East of Java and west of Lombok. The provincial capital, Denpasar, is the most populous city in the Lesser Sunda Islands and the second-largest, after Makassar, in Eastern Indonesia. The province is Indonesia’s main tourist destination, with a significant rise in tourism since the 1980s.
For months we tested, worked with Atelier One for engineering, codified raw data, and brought in various collaborators to ensure the buildingโs success. The result is a refined design with unparalleled beauty, which stands as a testament to IBUKUโs ability to create an extraordinary structure, inspired by nature and made with extreme technical precision.

IBUKU is a team of young designers, architects and engineers exploring groundbreaking ways of using bamboo to build homes, hotels, schools, and event spaces in Bali, Indonesia. We are creating a new design vocabulary based on this one material and exploring the way sustainable architecture and design can redefine luxury. The materials we use, the people we work with, and the land we build on all inform our design process. The traditional skills of Balinese craftsmen, combined with our design ideas and modern engineering enable us to create original bamboo structures that meet the needs of a diverse clientele.
